CanSkate
CanSkate is Skate Canada’s learn-to-skate program for children (4 and up), youth, and adults. It is designed for beginners who have little skating experience. It provides a fun and positive introduction to skating in a 50-minute group session.
Through fun, active, and engaging group lessons, skaters develop essential skills such as balance, agility, control, coordination, and movement. These skills provide a strong foundation for figure skating, hockey, ringette, speed skating, or recreational skating.
Sessions are led by NCCP-certified Skate Canada coaches and supported by Program Assistants. Together, they create an encouraging environment where skaters can learn at their own pace and develop their skating skills.
Advanced CanSkate
Advanced CanSkate is for skaters working on CanSkate Badge 4-6 who want to continue developing their skating skills. It builds on the skills learned in CanSkate Badge 1-3 and helps skaters become stronger and more confident on the ice.
Through fun, active activities, skaters develop more advanced skills such as forward and backward crosscuts, edges, turns, and other advanced skating techniques. As they move through the program, they are also introduced to skills that can support participation in hockey, ringette, speed skating, or recreational skating.
Group sessions are 50 minutes long and led by NCCP-certified Skate Canada coaches.
Skating twice a week is encouraged at this level. The more time skaters spend on the ice, the more opportunities they have to practice, build confidence, and progress!
